I like Rome much better after the tour
I was a bit down on Rome to begin with, and I must apologize for that. I have since spent €30 on guided tours of the major ruins and sites (including the Vatican Museum/Sistene Chapel), and I can now say that this city is COOL! I am sad to be leaving for Florence today, but I am. Life goes on.
In addition to the Colosseum, I got TONS of photos of the Vatican interior, various sites along the way, and the crazy Danes that were staying next to me at the hostel. (I hung out with them for several hours last night.) Frederick, Martiin, Nic, Esben and several others. They were there as a group on a school trip. I was a minor celebrity because my mom drives a Lincoln Navigator.
Yesterday, as I was wandering around Roma Termini train station trying to find a way out to the street, I stumbled across an elevator that had an LCD readout of the floor it was on. It said “-1”.
The hostel I’m staying in tonight in Florence (actually 40min south in Tavernelle) apparently doesn’t know who I am. I have already paid to stay there, so I sure hope they can sort things out. In the worst case I’ll just pay again, as the guy I spoke with yesterday said that the hostel is pretty empty. Sort of surprising, as the Alassandro Downtown here in Rome is pretty well packed.
OK, enough rambling from me! Hope you are all doing well. I’m sending out postcards slowly but surely. I’ll catch up with you again in a few days.
