I just saw the coolest movie!

If you happen to have the chance to see Želary, take it! I just got back from this touching Czech film about a member of the Czech resistance in Prague during World War II. It was in Czech, but subtitled in English. The lead actress was beautiful and really did a great job in her role as a woman who was found out by the Gestapo and had to hide in a remote Czech village. The only problem: in order to be accepted by the people living there, she needs to marry the man she’s staying with.

Alex and I went to see this on a whim. Alex had seen (and hated) The Matrix: Revolutions, and it was one of the few other films there we both hadn’t seen. (That’s not to say that I wanted to see The Matrix III....) Clearly, we were really pleased with it, and not least because it only cost us 99,- Kĉ! That’s about $3.50 — cheaper than it costs to rent a DVD in the States.

Alex and I also went to the National Technical Museum today, which was neat. There were exhibits of a whole bunch of motorcycles, trains, ships, cars, carriages and planes. There was even a whole exhibit on the life of Johannes Kepler, one of the great Rennaissance astronomers. And it was only 30,- Kĉ for students!

I’m going to be staying in Prague until Sunday. There was a chance I was going to be able to go home early for free, but that didn’t work out. I guess my essays will have to wait. I now need to find a place to stay for the next four night. Looks like I’ll probably just reserve a spot at a hostel in town and stick around. Some people are going to other coutries, notably Austria; there’s a complete rail strike there, though, so a few people are scrambling to come up with other plans.

More later.
