The trouble with RyanAir
I just seem not to be able to catch a break when it comes to travel! This story took place on Monday, 8 December, the same day as my Humanities final.
(Please note that Ryanair is a company which understands the old axiom “sex sells.”)
Michelle and I left the Dublin hostel at 06:45, planning to catch a bus at 07:00. We succeeded, and half an hour later found ourselves at Dublin airport. That was where the fun began....
We thought the woman at the check-in desk had said to go to Gate A9, and she very well may have. After waiting until 09:00 for our 09:30 flight, though, with no action evident at Gate A9, we went to look at the board again. Surprise! The flight had been moved to Gate A1. After walking to that gate, we discovered that another flight was about to board there --- but there was no mention of Dublin--London Stanstead.
We waited some more and asked the people at the Ryanair ticket counter. That’s when we got the bad news: our flight had been delayed until 13:25! Needless to say, we were a bit upset. Michelle and I had a final scheduled for 13:30, so we clearly weren’t going to make that.
In the end, we got home at about 18:00. It turned out that the plane we were to take to London had been withdrawn at the last minute because of some technical problems. The whole Ryanair fleet was in use, so they had to scramble a plane out of Spain to replace the other one. Thus the outrageously long delay.
Things turned out all right, though, since John Makey (the professor whose final we missed) was such a cool fellow. He gave two copies of the test to a classmate of ours and we took it that evening, turning it in the next day.
I got a perfect score, if you must know. B-)
