The Bush!

I spotted this on my way to a final the other day. Sadly, it was blacked out the next day, so the full humor of the alteration is a bit tough to see:

The blacked out part says “DIE BUSH!” It was spray painted on the sidewalk. Before it was painted over, the first word was crossed out in chalk and the rest of the text was added. The text is self-explanatory if you’ve taken German. If not, you need to learn a bit about German definite article usage. (The second Note on the page is the explanation you’re after.)

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in New York

I wandered over to the New York Times website today, only to find a review of the all-male production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” which just opened in NYC. Wouldn’t you know it, it’s the same one I saw last October in London.

I didn’t mention it on my blog at the time, but this production is fantastic. I loved it; I laughed harder then than I had since the all-female production of Taming of the Shrew by the RSC at the Globe!

I guess it just rekindled a bit of London nostalgia in me. I e-mailed Brian last night. (He was my British Shakespeare professor in London, for those of you who have forgotten.) For him it’s just where he lives. But for me... well, it was one of the most enjoyable and best things I’ve ever done, going over there. Having fantastic faculty like Brian was a big part of that.

I looked into getting a visa and work permit for the UK last night. It looks like it’s damn near impossible if you aren’t a person under 30 who is a citizen of a Commonwealth country (I’m not) or a highly-skilled foreign worker (I don’t qualify there either). About the only way it will work, I think, is if I get a job first and then go to the Government with that in hand to ask for a visa.

I fear that will never happen, but I’ve been looking at tech job listings over there anyway. We’ll see. I haven’t found anything that I would be suitable for yet.

My last final commences in half an hour. I’m going to go cram a bit.

Two more days!

I can’t believe I’ve made it through. I thought I was going to die last Friday, without sleep. And then today I had my two most difficult finals. But Physics is over, and I actually joined my Physics professor, Dr. Zammit, for dinner this evening. There were three other guys there; we had a great time for only $7.25 per person. I don’t know how I did on his test, but I think I’ll be able to pass.

My last final is Databases.

SELECT student_name FROM cpe365 WHERE grade = ‘B’ AND student_name = ‘Nick’;

STUDENT_NAME
------------------
Nick

There you have it.

This is why he is writing for the NYT

Jonathon Rauch argues succinctly and persuasively what I was trying to argue just last week. Between that and this article describing how little real help a dometic partnership is when it comes to life and death situations, the case is stronger than ever.

My prediction: more states will follow Washington (with some of them needing to be dragged along, kicking and screaming), until gay marriage is recognized as the universal right it should be.

Great weekend

I had a great weekend! It all started when I happened to see someone I know from my Physics class on my way to my car after school. He had a guitar out, so I stopped and chatted for a bit. I played some, and it turns out that he plays piano, so we jammed for a bit. I don’t do that sort of thing nearly often enough!

The rest of the weekend was just as fun and relaxing. I stole Melissa (Jordan’s new gf) away from him for a bit last night. We went out for doughnuts and had a nice, long discussion about everything from English and biology to religion. She’s a really great girl; J chose well. (Though it sounds like he was really more chosen himself, but that’s another story....)

And finally, on Sunday, I had my penultimate show. Next week is going to be a greatest hits kind of thing, I think. Fuck currents, I’m playing quality music both hours! You may want to tune in.

I have an interview today. crosses his fingers

ONE MORE WEEK!
